Description
Three of five pups at this years den site pose for a portrait.
Northern Ontario Canada
I monitor this den along with other interested people this time of year to watch for the emergence of the pups and it's always fun to see the new brood emerge from the den.
This year with some trepidation concerning the future of the young ones and the mother fox. Late last week was the last time I checked in and I did not see the pups out yet but the mother was around the den and looked to be in good health. Today when I visited was the first time I saw the pups and also noticed that the mother of the pups was injured.
The entire time I was there she never put any weight on her back left leg. I watched her feed the young ones and head out to hunt one more time. I'm not sure how successful she will be hunting on three legs. Hopefully she can overcome this injury and continue to care for herself and the young ones.
Just a note to say that it's the beginning of June and the family has moved out of the den and all is well. The mother has provided well for her pups despite her injury and it seems to be healing well.
Thanks to all who have visited.
